Change Management and Training in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The Role of Change Management

Change can be challenging and oftentimes scary. This is especially true with AI, as it has the power to radically transform how your team carries out tasks through new business processes, how you engage with customers by enabling more data-driven decisions and self-service options. For the value of AI to be realized, it is important to implement appropriate change management to ensure that modifications are integrated into the culture of an organization. This integration is not merely a technical exercise; it is a journey to ensure your team understands how AI will transform and affect people, culture, and workflows. Sometimes, people just need to understand why changes are made and how they affect them. This is where an effective change management strategy would include clear articulation of the “why” behind AI adoption. It gives organization leaders a chance to transparently outline the benefits of the AI initiative for the organization and for employees as well. These could include opportunities for re-skilling, eliminating repetitive tasks to free up their time, and enabling a more productive and fulfilling work environment. Engaging employees early and seeking their input can ease the “scary” feeling and build a sense of empowerment.

The Role of Training

In addition to a change management plan, it is also important that an organization focuses on providing proper training plans to ensure successful AI adoption. Bayen Group has always and will always believe that AI tools are only as effective as the people who use them. A comprehensive and easy-to-follow training program should be provided and tailored to the audience to ensure everyone is accounted for. Every employee is unique — so, training should address all types of learners (visual, reader, etc.) and focus on leveraging AI in their daily work.

Effective training goes beyond technical skills. Interestingly, our experience showed that folks who are less technical tend to adapt to AI faster.

The Role of Continuing Education

Good job on raising awareness (via change management) and training your team. Now it is time to focus on building on top of that to ensure long-term success. AI is not just a tool that you implement and walk away from. It is a fast-learning technology that enables your team to innovate and adjust. It is best for leaders to provide ongoing training to encourage their team to expand and adapt the technology for their needs while creating a safe space for experimentation and failure. If an organization does this effectively, it builds a culture of continuous improvement and will take their AI investment into the stratosphere

Conclusion

AI adoption is not just a technological upgrade; it’s a movement. Navigating this movement is as simple as 1 (Change Management), 2 (Training), and 3 (Continue Education), but it requires organization leaders to put people at the center of the AI journey. By doing so, an organization can truly ensure they are enabling a culture that can realize the full potential of AI.

Success belongs to those organizations who are willing to adapt, learn, and lead through change. We are grateful that we get to help our clients with their journey, not only from a technical perspective, but also from the user adoption side of projects. Don’t lose the humanity in your AI journey. Afterall, we are building AI for people. Have a safe journey, everyone!
