Wow! We know everyone says this, but we cannot believe it’s been 10 years since we kicked off Bayen Group. As any business owner knows, starting a business is far from easy – it takes sacrifice, hard work, risk (and a willingness to fail), tenacity, resilience, and focus. Nothing about the success we’ve achieved over the last decade has come from luck – though we do consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to build it. It comes from everything we’ve put into it. We want to take this opportunity to reflect on our 10 years – from where we started, to how we’ve grown, to where we want to go next.

In the beginning, our “office” was a table at our favorite local Mexican restaurant where we fleshed out a vision for this business. In fact, we continue to meet at that very same restaurant with clients, partners, and friends today. We even took the team there to celebrate our 7th anniversary a few years ago. What’s special about this place is that it represents our humble beginnings. Today we’re recognized by some of the country’s leading defense contractors as exceptional suppliers – but when we started, we had nothing but some killer guacamole and our shared passion to succeed.

Bayen Group is built on the idea that people always come first. That means many things in our day-to-day operations, from ensuring our employees and contractors get paid before we do, traveling to our clients for interviews and making sure the solutions we deliver exceed our clients’ expectations. A lot of what we believe in comes from the way we were raised – both with a firm belief in the golden rule of treating others how you’d want to be treated. We’re continuously amazed at how the good we’ve put into the world has come back to us through the success of our company.

When people come first, relationships become the foundation. Just like in a family, the relationships and trust we share with our employees and our clients are paramount, and we often go without so we can ensure those relationships are nurtured. We believe in doing right by others, and we truly believe that’s what leads to long-term success. Speaking of family, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of ours. When we finally got a brick-and-mortar office space, it was our families that helped us get up and running – from building furniture, to decorating the space, to setting up our network, to making sure the snacks were always stocked (a job once held by Greg’s grandson, which Huy’s daughter now assumes). Our mothers were office managers, our cousins managed business development, Greg’s wife planned events, and Huy’s was our very first Business Analyst. We really aren’t overstating it when we say family means everything to us. (And we hope they see this as a huge THANK YOU.)

Though we’re the owners, we’ve never taken a step back. We make sure we’re working the hardest in order to lead the team by example. We try to celebrate milestones and successes whenever possible – from birthdays, to anniversaries, to Go Lives, to family meals – so that our team, our clients, and our families know just how important they are to us and our business. So, as we reflect on 10 years, we do so with gratitude, but also with conviction. We got here, not by luck, but through hard work, dedication, sacrifice, perseverance, and a commitment to doing things the right way even when it was harder. Our success is measured not only by what we have built, but by how we build it and the people we built it with along the way. That belief (and excellent Mexican food) carried us through our first decade, and we are confident it will carry us into the next as we continue to grow.
